"Can anyone explain how less pool time is a better fit for this Y's mission?"
As I've been thinking about the whole thing, I just keep having so many questions about how things got to this point, and what the issues are, exactly. So I'm throwing out a list of questions that I feel would be helpful to get answers to — and maybe by now, folks know much of them.
What exactly are the structural issues? The roof and the building envelope?
Has the Y done an internal study of both pools' usage?
Assuming it is correct that aquatics as a sport is declining nationally, has the Y done any investigating as to whether that is also true in Fairfield County? For example, water polo seems to be growing on the East Coast. Even if aquatics is declining nationally, does that matter here?
What are the competing usage needs for that space? What else is putting pressure on the Y's footprint?
Of course the Y's mission is paramount, but can anyone explain how less pool time is a better fit for this Y's mission?
What is the relationship with the Board of Education vis-à-vis the pool and other facility sharing?
Just my questions.
